Cartoonists are reputable everywhere in the world. Their vision, their way of portrayal, their thought process, and their way of conveying the message to the masses makes it a lot different than any other profession. Because of their secular nature, and minimum or no rules levied on them, most of the countries have banned the job of a cartoonist. Although there is no such bar on cartoonist professions in Canada, because of some recent criticisms for the posts of cartoonists against President Donald Trump, the profile is going through a severe crisis.

Canadian Cartoonist-The hall of fame

Cartoonist or Caricaturists in Canada have been enjoying the hall of fame since 2005. From that period till now, for their innovative ideas and words of the mouth of the masses, they have gained popularity in the country. There are no such harsh ethics levied on the Canadian cartoonists. The Canadian cartoonists have to follow only three important rules, as emphasized by the cartoonists association in Canada. These three rules are,

· Cartoonists have to consider fair comment: The foremost rule that a cartoonist has to follow is to consider a fair comment. One cannot support a particular party and go against the other discriminately. It means, the cartoonists cannot support any particular person, race, sex, religion, etc. and abruptly say harsh words against the other or opposite for the same.

· Knowing the audience well: Unlike any advertiser, a cartoonist also needs to know his/her audience well before making the cartoon. It is important to know the perceptions, age groups, tastes, and preferences, etc., they should come under the criterion of a cartoonist’s research. This is important because to grab the attention of the masses; it is important to know what they think about a particular subject and thereby conclude with the help of the creative.

· History and context of the matter: Going in-depth on any subject matter before concluding anything is very important, even in the case of cartoonists. In fact, it is more important for them than any other profession. This is because one can do better work only if you have better knowledge about the subject matter. Moreover, if a cartoonist falls guilty for giving inappropriate information, he/she may be punished under Canadian law.

By following these simple rules, Canadian caricaturists are serving their job with lot of innovations and creativity. But these days, the cartoonists in the country are facing some major problems.

The crisis that calls of withdrawal of Canadian cartoonists

Recently, a controversy arose out of Michael de Adder’s anti-Trump cartoon. Within an hour of its popularity on social media platforms, he had released from his part-time contract with Canada’s Brunswick News company. The Cartoonist shared this cartoon post oh his Facebook and Twitter accounts and over the weekend, and it started creating problems for the cartoonist community in the country. The cartoon was thereby called a “false narrative” by many local news agencies. It was a careless creation of Adder, quoted the Brunswick News.

There are some other cases also that led the cartoonist profession into severe difficulties. But with the innovation and justified creation, the Canadian cartoonists are expected to revive the recognition soon.

Wrap up

Controversies make the lives of cartoonists difficult than any other profession. But even after all these difficulties and hardships, Canadian cartoonists are serving their career successfully with the creative and innovative works. Emphasizing on the basic rules, Portrait Master Leonardo also has become one of the renowned cartoonists in the country.
